Chapter 4

Kicking off at Square-One!

”Today class! We will be having a PROPER introduction!~” Mr.Dera smiled sweetly. He would have looked like a PROPER teacher, teaching a PROPER class if he wasn’t holding onto a Halberd 300X v.6…With blood dripping on its tip… and a class that was acting like PROPER students instead of the cavemen they were yesterday.

“uhhhh, w-ell. My name is Runea Kaito and that’s pretty much it…I mentioned it yesterday too…So, uh, yeaaa…” Runea looked around sweating like a hog.

“…Oh, that’s right…I forgot about your situation and that you don’t know common things such as these…” Mr.Dera muttered under his breath

“Hm?” Runea cocked her head to the side

“Well, the introduction does include the name, but I also meant your element and then the picking of your familiar!”

“Huh? element? Familiar? Whazzat?”

“….Don’t know that either? Guess I’ll hafta explain.”  Mr.Dera finally put down the Halberd 300X v.6 “Well, elements are as they sound… Elements of nature! Such as, Fire, Water, Wind, Light, Time, Ice and so on and so forth.

A perfect example would be Asthea, she has the element of Light, thus allowing her to teleport and heal. Then theres Robert, he possess the power of Wind. I, myself am keeping mine a secret~” He acted cutesy.

“WOW Mr.Dera! You’re so knowledgable!” Runea’s eyes were sparkling.

“Of course! After all I am the teacher! AHAHAHAH!” Mr.Dera laughed out triumphantly

Everybody refrained from saying anything inexcusable as they reminded themselves of the bloody weapon that lay in arms reach of Mr. Dera.

Well, except for…

“…….Are you an idiot? This is basic stuff that even pre-schoolers know…” A familiar looking guy stood up and retorted. “Hey moronic girl!” He shouted in her direction

“huh?” Runea looked over. “AH! It’s that rude guy that bumped into me on the first day!”

“WHA-? YOU’RE the one that bumped into ME!” The guy clad in black, looked like he was having a spasm.

“huh…? Oh yeaaaa~” Runea cutely knocked herself on the head with her fist

“……………….” The guy stood there looking pissed.

“Anyways it’s rude to call the new kid an idiot AND a moron ya know~” Mr. Dera pointed at him accusing him of treason.

“I was referring the idiot as YOU! Baka.” He replied while sighing.

“……………….”

-IGNORED- “

……Like I said, calling the new girl mean names won’t get you a girlfriend.”

“Don’t ignore what I said! And I don’t have time for trivial things such as a lover!”

“Haaa~” Mr.Dera sighed putting his hand on his forehead, and shaking his head “If you say things like that, soon you’ll become an old man without any love experiences~”

“Like I said! I DON’T NEED A GIRLFRIEND!” The guy stood up looking like he was gonna go on a rampage.

“A-anyways….Uh, w-why don’t you guys just c-calm down for now.” Runea stuttered. “oh yea, btw who are you?”

-Everyone stares at Runea as if she were some idiot……. Though she is.-

“S-seriously? She doesn’t know who he is?”   “Wow, she must be a bigger idiot than I thought”     “Amazing I never knew such dumb ppl still existed…”  ”I thought they were extinct.”  And the such was being whispered here and there.

“NOEZZZ~ Dumb ppl are all over the world! They’re not extinct!” Runea pouted.

“。。。。。。。。。。。”

-SILENCE-

“A-anyways…your name?”

“……….Drache. Drache Lockings”

“O-oh, nice to meet you Drak!”

“It’s Dra-sh! Learn to pronounce things! Ahou.”

“Oh sorry, Durah!”

“………………” veins were popping out.

“Now, now! Settle down kids!” Mr.Dera grinned.

“Like you’re one to talk…….”

“Erk! A-anyways, I’ll explain what a familiar is! It’s a magical being or creature that you summon to your side to do battle!” He concluded.

“OH!” Runea bopped her fist on her open hand “So THAT’S what it is!” She replied looking amazed at Mr.Dera.

“Mm-hm! So now you got it right?”

“Yep! But how do I determine my element and familiar?” She questioned.

“Here! Just place your hand on this mirror and your element will be determined! As for your familiar, it’s your choice who or what you decide on!”

Then out of thin air, Mr.Dera pulled out a mirror with brilliant decorative sides and held it in front of Runea.

“This is the official day you are reborn” Mr.Dera grinned and looked at her with pride. “This is the day of your Re-birth Runea…. Whatever element is shown isn’t just a coincidence or at a random, It is what fate determined for you, and you only. And fate gives everyone the makings of a Hero.” He ended with a serious face.

“I-is this really Mr.Dera? He sounds so serious…” Runea thought, shocked at his words.

“But…What is this feeling? I feel as if I were MEANT to do this?”

Slowly, but surely, Runea lifted her arm, the robe gently swaying with her movements, and she gently touched the mirror.

Suddenly a bright light filled the room, engulfing everyone and everything in the rays path…

“ah. Isn’t this what happened when I was with Grandma….Does this mean I’m going to disappear? Am I finally going back?  how nice it would be to see my grandmother agin…” Her eyes winced at the light.

“Really? Is that really what you want?” A warm voice questioned. “To go back to everyday life…? Even after experiencing all of this….”

“….No” Runea answered looking down “No!” SHe turned her head up filled with pride. “This is just the BEGINNING of my story. The beginning of my legacy…”

“….I see. That is your answer…. Then, this is where your ‘Once upon a Time’ truly starts…” The soft voice echoed throughout Runea’s head as if melting away all her feelings. “I wonder if it will end with a ‘Happily Ever After’?”

And then…The light vanished. As if it were never there…. But in it’s place, the mirror was ablaze with every colour of the rainbow, every hue, intensity, tint and saturation of every pigment that is imaginable was glowing ever so softly on the surface of the mirror…

“B-but, what does this mean….?” Mr.Dera stared at the mirror in shock and then swiftly turned his head towards Runea, staring, just staring, in disbelief. Well, Dear Readers, Runea didn’t dissapear, nor did she see her Grandmother. Instead, all anyone within the room could do was just stare, and stare, and stare. Though Runea did not know she was the centre of attention. Didn’t even cross her mind that she was the main attraction. Nope, caz’ all she did, all she COULD DO was cry tears of joy…  Trails of water trickled down her soft, creamy face. Welling up inside her without any reason whatsoever, it just flowed out, non-stop.

And so her fate is sealed…

Whether a tragedy or a fairy tale awaits…

This is the starting point of Runea Kaito’s Chronicle.

An epic tale of a ‘Once upon a Time’,
